in the streets of dixon

in the streets of dixon
you might find
with clipboards holding forms to sign
two people of a certain kind
knocking on your door

they greet you with a casual glance
in their "business-like" sort of stance
and ask,
"Perhaps, is there any chance
some money you'd like to save?"

somedays they might just drag their feets
because of the stretching of the streets
but Arthur's provides them tasty treats
that push them further on

so if you see them, jon and shawn
please don't just kick them off your lawn
another "yes" keeps them keeping on
til the day starts again

Beach in October???

I arrived in Florida on Saturday morning... to this...

The water by their home was red this past weekend... which they hadn't seen before... and were told it was some sort of fungal tide. mmmm... fungal.

One of the places we went was Johnson Beach, where the Hastings spend a lot of dinners in the evenings.

On Sunday we went to Pensacola Beach, and walked on the pier and saw a giant seaturtle! My camera reflexes weren't good enough, but it was like 4 feet long!

oh my!!

This is Dale out on his sailboat in their backyard pretty much. I got to go out with him once before I left, and it was very serene... and tranquil...

Thanks a bunch for having me and taking care of me this past weekend Dale and Brooke! Looking forward to seeing you all around Christmas.

apple orchard

This past Sunday, I went to Carol Stream to visit a friend from Columbia College. I went to children's church to watch him teach and then we decided to go to...
an apple orchard!
I went with Sean and his wife, Hillary and their friends Amy and Aaron...

The orchard was pretty neat and slightly quirky... because they had a mandatory hayride to the apple trees... that took us a loop and wound up being right next to the place where we started. but we got to pick our own apples (lift and twist) and got some apple cider smoothies, so... yumm.

These apples are mostly not mine. Cortlands tasted the best to me cause they were a little tart...

This little boy in front is Peter. He's Amy and Aaron's son.

Sean has spied an apple he really wants! NNNN!!!

Hillary trying to reach a hard-to-get apple.

Amy taking a giant bite.

Here's Peter taking a cue from his mom. He's 2 years old.

Hmm... Sean wanted to ride the horsey before we left... so...

And Aaron wanted to ride the tractor for the photo shoot...

Here's Amy on the car ride back... I like the mood of this photo especially cause the sun was setting and it feels like it captures a "hanging out" time pretty well.

Anyways, it was pretty fun. yeppers.

Why Jon Got Less Than 5 Hours of Sleep Last Night

Ok, here's the silly boat.
Tonight was the first night I kept Jon up much later than he should've been since he came to Dixon. He and I played with that a studio light at the cabin.

First we took photos to figure it out in the kitchen of the cabin.
Then we went outside and played with it and the flashlight.

Then we thought, "what if we make the strobe go off a couple times during the exposure..." and did like 10 second exposures.

Then, it naturally went to this...

and this...

Before we left, the moonlight seemed pretty bright, so I took a photo of the cabin using the moonlight in a 30 second exposure.
